Ya know what? You are right. I used to get really pissed at these peeps laughing but the line about the grease in your hair is actually supposed to be funny.

As somebody who is spending Christmas alone after loosing everything…. This song actually made me feel a bit better. There are a lot of people out there in horrible situations tonight. I am safe at home…. I may be alone and depressed…. but it could be much worse. Tom Waits is not looking for an epic Christmas song… he just wants to remind the meloncholy out there that it could be much much worse. Merry Christmas Everyone!!!! <3

“I like to think of myself as someone who can think outside the box and who is intelligent enough to see the shades of grey.”
That’s nice that you think that! You should go into politics or c-level leadership. That kind of meaningless jargon slays in corporate America! See you at the Eagles concert? Can’t believe Tom Waits butchered Ol’ 55. I love me some oatmeal adult contempo. Far as I’m concerned, music and thinkin’ ’bout stuff are mutually exclusive enterprises. A-hyuck!

You are inane. This is narrative. It is the hidden story of the so-called American Century. The pleasure and glory is in the defeat.
“Follow, poet, follow right
To the bottom of the night,
With your unconstraining voice
Still persuade us to rejoice.
With the farming of a verse
Make a vineyard of the curse,
Sing of human unsuccess
In a rapture of distress…”
W.H.Auden
If you want “enjoyment” there are 10 million Adam Lambert clips you can download. Enjoy.

Sorry, I like to think of myself as someone who can think outside the box and who is intelligent enough to see the shades of grey. But frankly, this shit bores me. I see no virtue in it beyond the commitment of Waits. Yet still, he isn’t in any way enjoyable to listen to. Its just tired. And I feel like, for one to enjoy it, they ironically have suspend their desire to hear pleasurable music and messages and just hone in on inane shit. Sorry, but that’s just what I hear.

Sorry to hog the boards but I thought someone might find this interesting. In the movie “Pope of Greenwich Village” Darryl Hannah tells Mickey Rourke’s character the exact same words. “Charlie, I’m pregnant”. That was like a punch in the stomach when I heard it. Mickey played Charles Bukowski in the movie opposite Faye Dunaway “Barfly”. No more comments for a while. I just love this song.

Something I’ve never seen anyone comment on is Tom’s keyboard prowess. He plays a beautiful keyboard. Exquisite melodies.
